At 71° North, The District of Måsøy 


The district of Måsøy is in Finnmark, Norway.The municipality consists of Ingøya , Rolvsøya , Hjelmsøya , Måsøya and Havøya , where the municipal center of Havøysund lies, and the mainland side with the villages Snefjord , Slotten and Lillefjord. Måsøy boarders the municipalities of Nordkapp and Porsanger.


The district of Måsøy has 1242 inhabitants (per january 1st, 2015).

Havøysund has a bus connection to Olderfjord with corresponding connection to Lakselv, Karasjok, Honningsvåg, Alta and Hammerfest. Hurtigruten (Coastal Express Route) docks daily in Havøysund. The nearest airports are Alta, Lakselv and Hammerfest.




Havøysund is the administrative center in the municipality of Måsøy. The settlement is like most places along the coast of Finnmark, dense and concentrated. Fishery is the most important industry, and from Havøysund fish is being exported worldwide. On top of ''Gavlen'' (local mountain) a few kilometers north-west, stands the 16 wind turbines that generate electricity, and from the vantage point by Arctic View you can see far beyond the Finnmark coast.
